Location & Facilities
The University of Reading is a research-intensive institution with a strong reputation and the Department of Film, Theatre & Television (FTT) is based in Minghella Studios on the University's Whiteknights campus.
Minghella Studios is a purpose-built teaching, research and production facility that houses a fully equipped cinema, two theatres, editing suites, rehearsal rooms and a generous foyer area ideal for registration, networking and catering. These spaces regularly support departmental, interdisciplinary and public-facing events, demonstrating their suitability for this conference.
The building is fully accessible, with lift access to all floors, wide circulation spaces suitable for wheelchair users, and hearing loop systems installed for participants who are hard of hearing. All rooms are equipped with projectors, 5.1 surround-sound speaker systems, adjustable lighting rigs, and in-house AV support. The spaces can also accommodate hybrid delivery, with stable high-speed internet and camera and microphone setups for live-streaming.
Minghella Studios is easily accessible via frequent direct buses from Reading Station, with bus stops located inside the campus. Permit parking is also available immediately outside the building. Reading itself is just 30 minutes outside of London, with direct transport from Paddington as well as any stops on the Elizabeth line, and is widely considered to be one of the best and most accessible transport links in the UK. Direct trains are also available from many major UK cities including: Manchester, Birmingham, Southampton, Oxford, Bristol, Bath, Newcastle, York and Leeds. There is also direct transport from Heathrow and Gatwick airports, as well as being easily accessible from other airports such as Bristol, Southampton, Birmingham and other London airports.
